Border Guard Bangladesh gets first women soldiers  

Women will now guard Bangladesh's borders alongside men.

Ninety-seven female troopers joined the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) after marching in the passing out parade of the 88th BGB batch at Chittagong on Sunday.

The parade began at 8am at Border Guard Training Centre & School, Baitul Izzat at Satkania.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, the chief guest, told the women cadets: “You are about to make history as the BGB’s first female soldiers. Always remember the unforgettable bravery and sacrifices of women who fought in our glorious war for freedom.”

The government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina initiated the process to induct women into the BGB to ensure that women play an equal role in diverse professions, he said

The six month training with 1,144 cadets saw Sepoy (GD) Md Fazlul Karim Mizan take first place in all subjects while Jahanara Akhter performed best among all women.
