Bogra, July 24 (bdnews24.com)—A violent clash on Monday between pro-government and opposition-backed student organisations has caused Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College in Bogra to shut indefinitely.
Authorities on Tuesday also announced all exams postponed until further notice and asked students to leave the dormitories within 5pm.
Ruling party-backed Bangladesh Chhatra League and pro-BNP Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal activists engaged in a clash on Monday in which three Chhatra Dal members were injured.
Chharta Dal in turn called a strike on the campus on Tuesday, leading to further agitation. The Academic Council called a meeting and announced that all academic activities would remain postponed until further notice.
Bogra district Chhatra Dal General Secretary Shahbul Alam told bdnews24.com the college's decision to close down instead of punishing the perpetrators was unfair.
On the other hand, medical college Chhatra League President Rasel Parvez said there were three ongoing internal exams and the decision to close down was regrettable.
