A Turkish Airways flight carrying the coffin arrived in Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 5:30 am on Thursday, said Kamrul Ahsan, public relations officer of the police.

The formalities for handing over the body were completed in the presence of her loved ones and police higher-ups.

Rowshan Ara's body was then taken to her home in Mohanagar Project Residential Area on a mortuary ambulance.

Rowshan Ara had travelled to the Democratic Republic of Congo to attend a medal parade of a Bangladesh Front Police Unit stationed there on a peacekeeping mission.

She was going to an event in the car of Bangladesh Front Police Unit Commander (SP) Farzana when the vehicle collided with a lorry. The 57-year-old died on the spot.

Her funeral prayers will be held at Moghbazar's Nayatola Jame Mosque at 10am on Thursday, at Moghbazar Wireless Jame Mosque at 12pm and at Rajarbagh's Police Lines SI Shiru Mia Auditorium after the Zuhr prayers, said Assistant Inspector General of Police (Media) Sohel Rana.

The Namaz-e-Janaza will be attended by the home minister, inspector general of police, longtime colleagues, friends, family and other high-ranking police officials.

She will later be laid to rest at the Azimpur Graveyard, said Sohel.

Born on Jan 1, 1962, Rowshan Ara completed her SSC from Moghbazar's T&T High School and the HSC from Viqarunnisa Nun School and College before enrolling at the University of Dhaka.

After earning a master of social science degree from the University of Dhaka, Rowshan Ara began her professional police career in February 1988 and served in high-profile positions including assistant police commissioner of the Accounts Section, Reserve Office, Traffic Division and Training Unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, the largest police unit of Bangladesh Police.

She was the first woman superintendent of police at the district level in the Bangladesh Police.

She successfully performed her duty as the SP of Munshiganj district from 1998 to 2000.

Rowshan Ara was twice honoured with the “Inspector General Good Services Badge” for playing an important role in controlling terrorist activities, arresting terrorists, and recovering illegal drugs, arms and ammunitions.
