Barisal, May 20 (bdnews24.com) – A Barisal court sent former BNP lawmaker Abul Hossain Khan to jail after he surrendered to court Sunday, lawyers said.
The court of divisional special judge ATM Musa issued the order after rejecting a bail prayer in a case that involves charges of carrying firearms illegally, his counsel Shakhawat Hossain said.
Khan, vice-president of Jubo Dal central committee, was a lawmaker from Barisal-6 (Bakerganj) constituency for 2001-2006.
Special public prosecutor Abdus Sattar, quoting the case details, told the court that Khan had failed to surrender his firearms by a Feb 5 deadline to authorities.
Khan turned in only 90 revolver bullets on Feb 14.
Bakerganj police official Zahurul Islam on Feb 16 filed the case against him.
Later, he went into hiding after a warrant of arrest was issued.
The court cross-examined four witnesses Sunday after Khan sought bail from the judge.
