The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has seized 100,000 yaba tablets and detained six members of a biker group in Chattogram’s Patiya.
The suspects were detained on Thursday near the Patiya Government College on the Chattogram–Cox’s Bazar Highway.
RAB reported that the group was transporting the contraband from Cox’s Bazar’s Ramu to Chattogram, using group leisure rides as a cover for regular drug trafficking activities.
The detainees were identified as Md Bashir, 38, Belal Uddin, 32, Nurul Mustafa, 27, Md Saiful, 24, Md Hasan, 39, and Md Hossain, 37.
All six are residents from several Upazilas in Cox’s Bazar.
Lieutenant Commander Towhidul Islam, commander of the RAB-7 Chandgaon camp, said the elite force launched surveillance after intelligence tipped them off to the syndicate's trafficking operations.
Upon learning the group was heading toward Chattogram, RAB personnel took up positions near Patiya Government College mosque on Thursday morning.
They initially detained a biker riding ahead before rounding up the rest of the group.
"The individual detained first was performing reconnaissance on the road," Towhidul said.
"Officers subsequently stopped the four motorcycles trailing behind him. A search revealed 100,000 yaba pills concealed inside the fuel tank of one of the vehicles."
