A child with measles-like symptoms has died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, while dozens of new patients continue to be admitted to the facility.

In the 24 hours to 9am on Tuesday, the hospital recorded 32 new admissions of children displaying measles symptoms, according to Assistant Director (Administration) Dr Md Mynuddin Khan.

He said a seven-month-old boy from Sarishabari Upazila in Jamalpur district, who was admitted on Apr 11, died on Monday night under hospital care.

Since Mar 17, a total of 457 children have been admitted with measles symptoms.

Of them, 370 have been discharged and 13 have died, he added.

Admissions began trickling in during February, with one or two cases at a time in the paediatric ward, before rising steadily from mid-March.

The hospital has set up a dedicated 64-bed isolation ward for measles treatment, with three medical teams deployed to manage patients.
