Senior Secretary Mokabbir Hossain removed from Public Security Division

He has been reassigned to the Ministry of Science and Technology

Mokabbir Hossain, the senior secretary at the Public Security Division under the home ministry, has been transferred just three days after his appointment.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued an order on Saturday reassigning him to the science and technology ministry.

Mokabbir, who had previously chaired the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council, began his new role in the Public Security Division on Aug 14.

There are rumours within the administration that Mokabbir had played a strong role in safeguarding the Sheikh Hasina government before its fall on Aug 5.

After Tofazzel Hossain Miah, the principal secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, was removed on Aug 7, Mokabbir reportedly sought to secure that position.

M Sakhawat Hussain was earlier moved from his role as home advisor to the Ministry of Jute and Textiles in Friday’s reshuffle in the interim cabinet.

Meanwhile, in a separate order from the Ministry of Public Administration, Suleman Khan, secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Divison under the education ministry, has been appointed as a member of the Planning Commission.
