The accused was arrested from Birbhum.
“Amjad Sheikh was a key member of JMB and also one of the main conspirators of the Burdwan bomb making facility,” a NIA official said.
Sheikh, 30, was instrumental in procuring explosive chemicals and providing those to other co-conspirators for making IEDs.
Soon after the blasts, NIA had raided his Kolkata house and recovered receipts and vouchers related to purchase of chemicals which were used in making the IEDs.
It was revealed during the investigation that Amjad Sheikh was part of the JMB top brass in India.
After the blast, Amjad fled to New Delhi on Oct 8 and from there he went to Basti in Uttar Pradesh where he was provided shelter for few days by a policeman.
“Ultimately, he went back to West Bengal from where he was arrested,” the official said.
According to official sources, Sheikh was working with a Kolkata-based medical firm, which manufacturers various sterilisation products.
During investigation, it has also been disclosed that Sheikh was closely associated with the top JMB commanders who were running Jihadi training modules in two madrassas of West Bengal.
Sheikh carried a reward of Rs 10 lakh which was declared by NIA.
On Saturday, NIA arrested Sajid, alleged to be the chief commander of JMB.
