The Awami League leader was arrested during the tenure of the army-backed caretaker government after the state of emergency was imposed in 2007.
Several cases were filed against him at the time. A lower court even handed down punishment to him over a case, but the High Court overturned the order.
The ACC had filed the case in November 2007 against Alamgir and four others for allegedly embezzling Tk 9.4 million while printing the question papers of ‘Census and Housing Project 2001’.
He was the State Minister for Planning during the 1996-2001 term of Awami League.
They other accused are former Secretary and Bureau of Statistics General Director Syed Tanvir Hossain, former Joint Director SM Tajul Islam, Elite Printing and Packaging General Manager Mohsin Ali Pramanik and Managing Director Arshad Ali.
