A woman and two children have been found dead with their throats slashed in Cumilla's Homna Upazila.

The bodies were recovered from a house in Monipur Uttarpara of Gharmora Union around 9am on Tuesday, according to police.

The dead were identified as Papia Akter Sukhi, wife of Zahirul Islam, who works in Saudi Arabia, her 4-year-old son Hossain, and 5-year-old Zubayer, the son of another expatriate identified as Sattar.

Homna Police Station investigation officer Dinesh Chandra Das said the bodies were found inside a room of the house.

“We found the door open after arriving at the scene. The victims had their throats slit,” he said.

According to locals, Hossain and Zubayer were cousins. Zubayer had stayed the night with his aunt Sukhi and cousin on Monday. Their bodies were discovered the following morning.

When asked about a possible motive, Dinesh said it was too early to determine why the killings took place.

“We cannot say at this stage what the motive was. The circumstances will become clearer once teams from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) begin their work. We are conducting the initial investigation,” he said.
