Chittagong, Sep 5 (bdnews24.com) — The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) has filed 13 cases with Chittagong police against nine engineers, three officials and 13 contractors including Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) chief engineer Iqbal Hossain Majumder.
Chandgaon Police Station chief Abu Zafar Mohammad Omar Faruq confirmed the incident to bdnews24.com.
Assistant director of ACC's Chittagong section Mohammad Rafiquzzaman told bdnews24.com that they were accused of embezzling money sanctioned for constructing a road from BFIDC to Kalurghat Bridge in Chandgaon between 2006 and 2008.
He said that preliminary estimates of the amount embezzled stood at around Tk 12 million.
"Moreover, around Tk 70 million shown to have been spent is nearly twice the amount it would have taken for the construction in reality," the ACC official added.
The cases were filed by ACC combined district office, Chittagong-2 deputy director Syed Iqbal Hossain, assistant directors Mohammad Rafiquzzaman and Rafiqul Islam, deputy assistant directors Saifullah Mohammad Emran and Khalilur Rahman Sikder on Sunday evening.
CDA caretaker engineer Noor Hossain, executive engineers Manzur Hasan and A M Habibur Rahman, assistant engineers Nurul Amin Bhuyian, Mohammad Ishaq and Elias Akter, deputy assistant engineers Hamidul Haque and Osman Sikder, estimators Rupan Kumar Chowdhury and Syed Ghulam Sarwar and accountant Mohammad Nazer were also charged in the cases.
Accused contractors are Jahangir Alam, Yakub Ali, Abdus Salam, Nurul Alam, Muntasir Mamun, Mohammad Aman, A K M Jasimuddin, Saleh Zahur, 'Nasiruddin', Mohammad Masud, Quazi Belaluddin, Noor Mohammad and Nitaipad Chowdhury.
