Crude bombs detonate over septic tank in Shariatpur

Investigators suspect 30 to 40 devices were detonated at the site

Crude bombs have exploded on an abandoned septic tank inside a bamboo grove in Shariatpur's Zajira Upazila, police say.

The incident took place on Monday night near Cherag Ali Bepari Kandi of Bilaspur Union, Zajira Police chief Md Saleh Ahmed said.

No one was injured in the blasts, police said.

Police and local residents said a series of loud explosions was heard behind the homes of “Nasir Member” and Ali Uzzamal Bepari, triggering panic in the area.

When police reached the scene, they recovered evidence from the tank where the blasts had occurred.

"We dispatched a police team upon receiving information from locals," officer Saleh said. “It is suspected that 30 to 40 crude bombs went off."

"We have collected evidence from the scene. The incident is under investigation, and preparations are under way to file a case,” he added.
