BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will be admitted to The London Clinic, a private healthcare organisation based in central London, for advanced medical treatment.
Khaleda will leave Dhaka on Tuesday night and reach London the following day for admission to the hospital, her personal physician Prof AZM Zahid Hossain said at a press briefing on Monday.
“Madam will leave Dhaka at 10pm tomorrow [Tuesday] aboard a specially arranged air ambulance from Qatar’s emir following the completion of formalities. She will take the Dhaka-Doha-London route.”
‘‘The London Clinic is a long established, traditional hospital under the NHS. She [Khaleda] will be admitted there. She’ll be taken there directly from Heathrow International Airport. She’ll receive treatment there.”
Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani sent a special air ambulance to help Khaleda because he knew of her illness, Prof Zahid said.
‘‘The special air ambulance will land at 7:30pm today [Monday] at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Madam will fly to London tomorrow on this plane.”
The special air ambulance will have four physicians and paramedics from the royal medical team of Qatar on board. At least six members of the medical board for Khaleda will accompany her. They are Prof Shahabuddin Talukdar, Prof FM Siddique, Prof Nuruddin Ahmed, Dr Zafar Iqbal, Prof AZM Zahid Hossain and Dr Mohammed Al Mamun.
In addition, Khaleda’s daughter-in-law Syeda Shamila Rahman, BNP Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Enamul Haque Chowdhury, Executive Committee member Tabith Awal and Khaleda’s Personal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, along with other staff members will accompany her.
The 79-year-old former prime minister has been suffering from liver cirrhosis, cardiac disease, and kidney ailments and other health issues for a long time.
