Heavy rain has washed away the approach road to a bridge in Nilphamari's Kishoreganj Upazila, leaving around 20,000 residents facing severe disruption.
The Upazila administration has assured locals that emergency repairs will begin immediately.
On Thursday morning, strong river currents triggered by days of heavy rain caused one side of the bridge approach near Beltali Bazar in Nitai Union to collapse, according to local residents.
Later in the day, Kishoreganj administrator (UNO) Arifur Rahman visited the site and promised swift repairs.
Residents said several days of heavy rain and upstream flows had swollen the river, causing strong currents that eroded the approach road.
Road links with Nitai Union Parishad and several nearby villages have been cut off, halting all vehicle movement.

Rahim Uddin, a local resident, said people were unable to cross the bridge after the collapse and called for urgent repairs to ease public suffering.
Student Mithila Akter said she had to return home after finding the road had collapsed while travelling to school by motorcycle with her father.
Another student, Jui Akter, said she got off van, crossed the damaged section on foot and boarded another vehicle to reach school.
Locals said hundreds of people use the bridge daily to reach the market and urged the authorities to restore the road without delay.
Nitai Union Council Chairman Mottakinur Rahman Abu said the UNO had been informed immediately after the collapse and assured residents that repair work would begin soon.
The UNO said the damage had been reported to the authorities and geo-bags were being placed as an emergency measure to reduce public suffering and reopen the road.
