The government has deployed the Army in Chattogram to “help the civil administration” tackle the ongoing floods that have affected more than 750,000 people in the district.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a message on Friday night that the deployment followed an “urgent request” from the Chattogram district administrator (DC).
"Following the urgent request of the Chattogram DC, the 10th Infantry Division and 24th Infantry Division of the Bangladesh Army are conducting search, rescue and relief operations in various flood-affected upazilas."
More than 1 million people have been stranded across Chittagong Division due to heavy rains and landslides since Sunday.
In Cox’s Bazar alone, more than 300,000 people have been marooned as of Friday afternoon.
At least 32 people have died in the disaster, including landslides, till Friday. Ten people have died in different Upazilas of Chattogram and also in the port city.
Satkania, Lohagara, Chandanaish, and Banshkhali Upazilas are the worst affected in Chattogram.
Severe flooding was also reported in Boalkhali, Hathazari and Fatikchhari Upazilas.
