79 Mro National Defence Party members surrender arms in Bandarban, return to normal life

Six years into its creation, 79 members of Mro National Defence Party (MNDP), known as a local terrorist organisation in Bandarban, have returned to normal life after formally surrendering their arms to the Bangladesh Army.

State Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Bir Bahadur Ushwe Sing was present during the formalities held at the remote Kurukpata Bazar in Alikadam on Thursday.

The members of the Mro tribe on Wednesday handed over the 55 guns, 76 fatigues, 99 rounds of ammunition and other instruments.

The Army's 24 Infantry Division GOC and Chittagong Area Commander Maj Gen Shafiqur Rahman and 69 Infantry Division's Brig Gen Nakib Ahmed, among others, were also present during the formalities of the surrender on Thursday.
