Bhaluka triple murder prime suspect Nazrul arrested in Gazipur

He is suspected to have killed his brother’s wife and children, and will be interrogated on his motive

Police have arrested the prime suspect in the murder of a mother and her two children in Mymensingh’s Bhaluka Upazila.

Mymensingh police Kazi Akhtar Ul Alam said the suspect Nazrul Islam was detained on Tuesday near Gazipur’s Joydebpur Railway Station.

On Monday, police recovered the bodies of Moyna Akter, 25, their daughter Raisa Akter, 7, and son Nirab Hossain, 2, from their rented home in Ponashail. All three had their throats slit.

Nazrul, who is Moyna’s husband Rafiqul Islam’s younger brother, had been living with the family and went missing following the incident.

Moyna’s brother Zahirul Islam filed a murder case at the Bhaluka Model Police Station against Nazrul and several unnamed people on Monday night.

On Monday, Rafiqul returned home from work and found the main gate locked. With the landlord's help, he broke in and discovered the bodies.

He told police that Nazrul had been jailed for two years in a murder case. He claimed to have borrowed Tk 40,000 to secure Nazrul’s bail two and a half months ago, after which Nazrul moved in with the family.

Officer Akhtar confirmed that Nazrul is being brought back to Bhaluka for interrogation on his motive.
