Incarcerated former foreign minister and Awami League leader Dipu Moni has met her daughter in Munshiganj jail to discuss a parole application following the death of her husband, Supreme Court lawyer Tawfique Nawaz.
Tani Deepavali Nawaz visited the prison on Wednesday to consult her mother on the duration and timing of the parole request, Jail Superintendent Md Jannat‑ul Farhad confirmed.
Lawyer Md Faisal Hossain said preparations are under way to seek Dipu Moni’s release on parole.
“Her daughter was allowed inside the prison to consult her mother. After finalising the application, it will be submitted to the district administration,” he said.
Tawfique, 76, died at Dhaka’s Continental Hospital on Tuesday after long‑term complications with kidney and liver disease.
He had suffered a stroke in 2019 and was last seen in court on May 27 in a wheelchair to meet his detained wife.
Dipu Moni has been in custody since her arrest in multiple cases following the 2024 movement. Although she secured bail in several High Court cases, she remains detained due to other pending charges in Dhaka and Munshiganj.
Earlier, her daughter had sought a seven‑day parole in May citing Nawaz’s illness, but the request was not granted.
