Dhaka and other parts of the country have experienced an earthquake that registered as a magnitude 5 on the Richter scale.
Iqbal Ahmed, an official at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s Earthquake Monitoring Centre, said the quake was recorded at 10:32am on Friday.
The centre of the quake was in Myanmar, 482 km northeast of Dhaka.
On Dec 2, Dhaka and other parts of the country had experienced a magnitude 5.6 quake. It also recorded a magnitude 5.4 quake in October.
Narsingdi saw a magnitude 4 quake on Sept 17, which was felt in Dhaka and nearby regions. There was a magnitude 5.5 quake near the Bangladesh-India border in Sylhet on Aug 14.
Dhaka, the Chattogram Hill Tracts, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Netrokona, and Dinajpur are the regions most vulnerable to earthquakes in Bangladesh, according to Syed Humayun Akhter, a former professor of Geology at Dhaka University.
