Police have detained two people in connection with the attack on the vehicle of National Citizens Party (NCP) leader Hasnat Abdullah.

The two detainees are Gazipur Metropolitan Ward No. 13 Jubo League leader Md Nizam Uddin and Kashimpur Thana Sheikh Russel Child Youth Council President Masum Ahmed Dipu.

They were detained on Sunday night, according to Gazipur Metropolitan Deputy Police Commissioner Rabiul Hasan.

A vehicle carrying Hasnat, chief coordinator of the NCP South, was attacked near the Chandna Intersection on Sunday evening.

DC Rabiul said Hasnat had been returning home after attending an event at the Gazipur Agricultural University. As his vehicle was stuck in traffic at Chandna, a group of men on four or five motorcycles came and attacked it.

“He was injured in the attack and the car's windows and windshield were shattered as well. Later, after acquiring details from him, Hasnat was safely brought to Dhaka,” he said.

NCP Chief Coordinator (North) Sarjis Alam said in a Facebook post, "As many as 10-12 assailants attacked Hasnat's car in the Gazipur area, smashing the glass of his car and leaving his hands bloodied. Those around him have to protect Hasnat."
