Authorities have arrested two men accused of abducting and raping an SSC candidate after breaking into her home in Patuakhali.
According to the police complaint filed by her father at Bauphal Police Station on Monday, the incident reportedly took place in the village of Charmiajan in Bauphal Upazila around 11pm on Saturday.
The suspects, identified as Md Bellal Hossain, 21, and Faisal, 18, were taken into custody following the complaint, said Md Kamal Hossain, the chief of Bauphal Police Station.
Both men are residents of the same village as the survivor.
Bellal, the primary suspect, is an accused in the recent high-profile case involving the kidnapping and robbery of a businessman named Shibu Bonik in Kalaiya Port.
He is currently out on bail according to police.
Meanwhile, Faisal is accused of assisting him.
According to the complaint, the attackers used sedatives through the window of the student's room and forcibly took her away.
“They ignored the family’s attempts to stop them and carried her to an abandoned location, where she was raped,” Kamal said.
The victim’s mother recounted the ordeal while speaking to local journalists.
“They tied my daughter’s hands and feet, covered her face with a towel, and took her away,” she said.
“We want justice.”
The girl was admitted to Bauphal Upazila Health Complex around 3am Sunday, said Dr Abdur Rouf, a government medical officer.
She was later transferred to the One-Stop Crisis Centre at Patuakhali Medical College for further treatment.
