A total of 765 assistant professors in public colleges have been promoted to the position of associate professor.
On Monday, the education ministry’s Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education issued two separate notifications promoting these teachers of the Bangladesh Civil Service, or BCS, general education cadre.
One notification listed 764 teachers, while the other included a single teacher.
The promoted educators will enjoy benefits and allowances under the 5th grade of the National Pay Scale, 2015.
Among those promoted, 94 are from the accounting department, the highest number from any field.
Other promoted include 56 from economics, 29 from Arabic and Islamic studies, 46 from Islamic history and culture, 26 from English, 31 from history, 48 from botany, and 7 from agricultural studies.
The list also features 1 teacher from home economics, 88 from mathematics, 39 from philosophy, 66 from physics, 6 from statistics, 72 from zoology, 55 from management, and 6 from Bangla.
In addition, 24 teachers from geography, 9 from psychology, 22 from chemistry, 18 from political science, 13 from social welfare, 1 from sociology, and 2 from Sanskrit have been promoted.
Teachers from the Government Teacher Training College were also included.
The group comprises 2 from Bangla, 1 from education, and 3 from science.
The notification specifies that the promoted teachers are to join their new roles as per the guidelines issued by the directorate.
The directive grants teachers "automatic" priority for higher positions within their own or other institutions.
