Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir has instructed field-level police personnel to take strict legal action against drug dealers, terrorists, and extortionists.
He said, "No political affiliation will be considered in this regard. An offender's only identity is that of an offender."
He issued these directives during the monthly crime review meeting for August, held at the Police Headquarters on Tuesday.
Reiterating police's “zero-tolerance” stance against drugs, the police chief said: “Strict measures must be taken to curb drug abuse.”
He urged ensuring the participation of the general public through community policing in this effort.
The IGP also directed “appropriate legal action” be taken against juvenile offenders.
The police chief said information regarding juvenile gangs must be gathered, and investigations should be conducted to uncover whether any influential figures are backing them, then action must be taken accordingly.
He also issued directives to ensure comprehensive security arrangements for the peaceful, safe, and smooth celebration of the upcoming Durga Puja.
Instructing every unit to formulate its own security plan for Puja, he said: “There could be malicious propaganda on social media. We must remain vigilant and alert regarding this.”
He also directed police personnel to properly use body-worn cameras while on duty.
