The names of three medical universities have been changed in a meeting of the advisory council as part of the ongoing efforts to remove references to deposed premier Sheikh Hasina and her family members from different establishments.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University, or BSMMU, has been renamed Bangladesh Medical University, as per Thursday’s decision.
Sheikh Hasina Medical University in Khulna will now be known as Khulna Medical University.
Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Medical University in Sylhet will be called the Sylhet Medical University.
According to a statement from the Cabinet Division, the advisory council gave final approval to the change in names after it was vetted by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division.
