Seven arrestees in the public attack on journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin in Gazipur have been taken into police custody for two days.
Bason Police Station chief Md Shahin Khan said police demanded 10 days to question them in the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrates’ Court of Gazipur, but only two days have been granted.
Earlier, police arrested seven people by raiding different areas -- Mizan alias Ketu Mizan, 35, his wife Parul Akhter alias Golapi, 25, Swadhin, 28, Al Amin, 21, Shahjalal, 32, Md Faisal Hasan, 23, and Sumon, 26.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Nazmul Karim Khan revealed the identities of the arrestees and shed light on the murder motive at a press conference held at his office.
Earlier, journalist Asaduzzaman Tuhin, 38, was hacked to death in the busy Chandana intersection area of Gazipur city around 8pm on Thursday.
He worked as a staff reporter for the Dainik Protidiner Kagoj newspaper in Gazipur and was a resident of Chandana.
He left behind his wife, Mukta Akhter, and two sons, Taufiq, 7, and Fahim, 3.
Shahin said two cases have been filed at Bason Police Station in connection with Tuhin’s murder.
Tuhin’s elder brother, Md Selim, filed a case against unidentified individuals in connection with the incident.
The other was filed by the brother of Badsha Mia, who was injured in a separate attack before Tuhin’s murder.
