A child has succumbed to his injuries from an air-conditioner explosion at his home in Dhaka’s Jatrabari, just days after the death of his father from the same incident.
Nine-year-old Tanvir, who suffered burns on 40 percent of his body, died during treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery on Sunday, according to the institute's resident surgeon Dr Shawon Bin Rahman.
His father, 38-year-old private sector worker Tuhin Hossain, had died on Wednesday.
Tanvir's mother, 30-year-old Eva Akter, and younger brother Tawhid, 7, remain in hospital care.
Doctors said Eva had 15 percent of her body burnt and Tawhid 8 percent.
The explosion occurred in the wee hours of Sept 20 at their home in the Dhalpur neighbourhood.
Jatrabari Police Station chief Kamruzzaman said the blast was suspected to have originated from the indoor unit of the family’s air-conditioner, which had not been cleaned for a long time.
All four family members were taken to the national burn institute immediately after the accident.
Hospital officials said the two survivors are still being treated, with doctors closely monitoring their condition.
