Jamaat sends Nazrul expulsion letter to speaker, EC

The speaker's office will have to make the next move before the Election Commission can act

Jamaat-e-Islami has informed the speaker and the Election Commission that Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam has been expelled from the party.

Assistant Secretary General Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair said on Thursday that a party MP delivered the letters to both offices.

The party said an internal probe found evidence of Nazrul's “moral misconduct”, prompting his expulsion under Article 62 of its constitution.

Nazrul was elected on Jamaat's scales symbol in February. After an intimate video surfaced online, party leaders initially called it AI-generated before Nazrul identified the woman as his second wife.

Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud said the EC cannot act on the expulsion alone and would require a formal reference from the speaker or parliament.
