Two brothers were hacked to death and their mother injured in Narsingdi’s Shibpur Upazila in a family feud over water from a well.
The incident occurred on Wednesday evening in Bailab village, Chakrada Union, as confirmed by Shibpur Model Police Station chief Afzal Hossain.
The victims, 40-year-old Sohag and 35-year-old Rana -- both identified by single names, were the sons of retired Army member Asaduzzaman Montu. Their mother, Shamima Akter, was also injured in the attack.
The dispute arose when water from a nearby well owned by their relatives flowed onto their property, causing inconvenience to their movement. Rana confronted his uncle Mamun about the issue, which led to a heated argument.
According to Shamima, Mamun, his son Didar, and another relative, Bidyut, attacked Rana with a knife, stabbing him in the abdomen. When Sohag tried to intervene, he was struck with a stick and later hacked to death.
Rana died on the spot, while Sohag succumbed to his injuries at Shibpur Upazila Health Complex.
Shamima demanded the immediate arrest and trial of those responsible for the killings.
Police have launched an investigation and sent the bodies for postmortem at Narsingdi Sadar Hospital. No arrests have been made yet.
