The education minister has instructed the authorities to ensure free education up to the university level for the children of “July martyrs”, and the “students” who were injured or disabled in the 2024 uprising.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon came up with the decision while exchanging greetings with his colleagues at his office in Dhaka on Tuesday, after a prolonged Eid break.
A media statement says he emphasised a series of measures including the “One Teacher, One Tab” project, introducing multimedia classrooms and compulsory third language education as well as technical education for all, to ensure modernisation and inclusive development in the education sector.
According to him, the government will also implement the “One Child, One Tree” programme.
The minister also highlighted the provision of free school uniforms and shoes for students, student loan facilities for higher education abroad, and honouring and recognising hafez [students memorising the Quran].
Milon, according to the statement, instructed the authorities to take “practical” steps to resolve the backlog in the training of teachers to help improve the quality of primary education.
“If needed, they will be trained in multiple shifts,” the Chandpur-1 MP was quoted as saying.
He also revealed the plan to distribute free school uniforms and shoes to more than 200,000 primary students across every Upazila in the next 180 days.
Primary students throughout the country will soon be provided with the school kits under the scheme, the minister said.
“Additionally, there is a plan to provide tabs to all teachers in primary and technical educational institutions alongside madrasas, high schools and colleges within a year."
