A freedom fighter and his wife have been found dead with their throats slashed in Rangpur’s Taragonj Upazila.

Police recovered the two bodies from a home in Khiarpara village in Kursha Rahimapur Union on Sunday morning, according to Marufat Hossein, the district’s superintendent of police.

The victims were identified as 75-year-old Jagesh Chandra Roy, a former head teacher at the local Chakla Primary School, and 60-year-old Suborna Roy.

Uban Chandra Roy, convener of the Taragonj Upazila Freedom Fighters Association, said they were killed at some time late on Saturday night.

“Jagesh Chandra Roy was a respected local teacher and freedom fighter,” he said.

Deepak, a neighbour, used a ladder to climb into the house after calling outside their door on Sunday morning. He found Suborna’s body in the kitchen and Jagesh’s in the bedroom and informed locals.

Neighbours say the couple lived alone in the house and their two sons are members of the police.

The motive for the murder is not yet clear. Police and the Upazila Nirbahi officer (UNO) are inspecting the scene.
