Nahid Islam, the chief coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, says the proposal or outline of an interim government will be announced within the next 24 hours through discussions with various groups tied to the mass uprising.

Amid arguments over the interim government after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country, Nahid said at a press conference on Monday, “The student movement platform will not support the formation of the government that is not supported or proposed by the students and people.

"It could be a military-backed government or a president-led government. The students and people will not accept such a government.”

President Mohammed Shahabuddin held discussions with different political parties and the representatives of the student movement platform over the wavering circumstances.

He is scheduled to address the nation about the framework for an interim government shortly.

Meanwhile, at the briefing in Dhaka’s Tejgaon, Nahid said, “We will reveal who will be in the interim government through a democratic process after discussions with everyone.”

“Hasina has fled but we are committed to bringing her to justice. Her resignation is not a solution. Her government is involved in many crimes such as the Pilkhana mutiny, forced disappearances, killings, and violations against human and voting rights. In addition, those who facilitated the fascism in the country will also be brought to book.”

Nahid said, “The president is a part of this fascist government. He had a discussion with three coordinators. We are open to discussions depending on the circumstances.”

Stating that it was the autocratic government of Hasina that forced the protesters to move to a one-point demand, he said, “The successful uprising was possible due to the participation of the students and people. It confirmed the fall of Hasina.

“We expect no more fascist government such as Hasina's to rule the country. If a fascist government exists, another leader like Hasina may emerge. We must keep an eye on those who try to save authoritarian governance.”

Nahid said, “We must make a new framework by abolishing the system that aids an autocrat in growing in a state. The first step of this movement was the overthrow of Hasina. We will have to move on to the second phase now. ”

The chief coordinator urged people to avoid all forms of violence and disorder for the sake of the country and public assets.

“No more violence will be tolerated. The students should be careful about this.

“We don't want any form of violence. We will peacefully protest on the streets.”

Another coordinator Asif Mahmud said, “We had started the movement for a permanent solution to the quota discrimination. But this fascism has lasted in the country over the past 16 years. No movement in Bangladesh has seen such fatalities.”

He also demanded the release of all detained protesters within the next 24 hours.
