A man has died and his nephew been injured in a road traffic accident on Akhtaruzzaman Flyover in Chattogram on their way to a cattle market to bring a sacrificial cow for Eid-ul-Azha on a pickup.
The accident occurred when the vehicle was moving down the ramp near Baby Supermarket around Sunday noon.
The dead victim is Mohmmad Shahnoor, 32, a resident of the Mirzapool neighbourhood in Shulokbohor. The injured, Bablu, 18, was identified with a single name.
Helal Uddin, sub-inspector at Khulshi Police Station, said Shahnoor and Bablu hired the pickup to bring a sacrificial cow from Sarkar Cattle Market in Hathazari.
Both stood on the cargo bed as the pickup descended.
They were hit by an iron bar installed on the flyover to stop large vehicles from using it.
Both were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, and Shahnoor died there later, the sub-inspector said.
