A fire at an electrical substation in Brahmanbaria has disrupted power supply to parts of the district town.
The flames erupted at the old substation in the Datiara area around 5:30am on Saturday, according to Md Nasir Uddin, an assistant engineer with the Brahmanbaria power distribution division.
He said an auxiliary transformer caught fire before firefighters arrived and doused the flames.
“The transformer was damaged in the fire, leaving some areas without power,” Nasir said.
“Repairs are under way and we are trying to restore supply as quickly as possible.”
Md Nazmul Alam, senior station officer at the Brahmanbaria Fire Service and Civil Defence station, said crews reached the substation soon after receiving the alert and extinguished the fire within about 15 minutes.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, he said.
No one was injured.
