Abdus Salam, administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation, has said he hopes it will not rain on Eid day, as Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is expected to offer Eid prayers at the National Eidgah ground.
He made the remarks on Monday while inspecting preparations for the Eid congregation at the National Eidgah and speaking to journalists.
“Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will offer Eid prayers here. We invited him, and he has accepted,” said Salam.
Referring to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department’s forecast of possible rain on Eid day, the administrator said: “I hope it does not rain on Eid day. The prime minister will pray here.”
“If it does rain, there is an alternative — Baitul Mukarram National Mosque. The congregation will be held there.”
Dhaka’s largest Eid congregation is scheduled to be held at 8am on Eid day at the National Eidgah ground.
Preparations are under way under the supervision of the DSCC.
After reviewing the final-stage preparations, Salam said: “All necessary arrangements have been made so that worshippers can offer prayers comfortably. I would request city residents not to bring anything that could create a security issue.”
He added that the Eidgah would be able to accommodate 35,000 male and female worshippers at the same time.
Arrangements have also been made for ablution, mobile toilets and first aid services.
