Police have arrested two people 12 days after the abduction of a man who was forced into a car in Dhaka’s Uttara in broad daylight.
They said the four individuals had kidnapped the man identified by a single name Arif and took him to Narayanganj’s Rupganj to “recover the money owed”.
The arrestees admitted in preliminary interrogation that the man was released after receiving the money.
According to a statement issued by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Wednesday, Uttara East police arrested the two in Khilgaon and Narayanganj’s Rupganj.

Police have also recovered the car used in the crime.
A video showing a man being shoved into a car in broad daylight in Uttara went viral on Facebook on Apr 18.
The video was posted by Noman Ahmed Nafiz, a university admission seeker.
According to Nafiz, the incident occurred on a street opposite the BNS Centre in Uttara. Three men forcibly pushed a pedestrian into a private car.
When bystanders approached in an attempt to intervene, the men turned on them as well. The car then sped off in the direction of the airport.
The video shows two men shoving a man wearing a black mask into a white car. A third man, who was standing nearby, then joined in. Together, they push the masked man into the vehicle.
According to the DMP, the car fled the scene through the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway. It came to Uttara East police’s attention after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
A police team analysed the video clip from the closed-circuit cameras in and around the scene and identified the kidnappers alongside the recovery of the Sedan car used in the incident.
Hasanuzzaman was arrested in the capital's Khilgaon area around 5:30am on Monday. The car used in the crime was seized.
Later, on the basis of his information, Amir was arrested in East Chanpara of Rupganj.
However, police are yet to find the person named Arif, who met the incident, and are trying to contact him and arrest others involved in the incident.
