Former minister Mosharraf Hossain, who was arrested in October following the fall of the Awami League government, has been released on bail.
His release was confirmed around 5:30pm on Thursday by Dhaka Central Jail Superintendent AKM Masum.
“He was undergoing treatment at Bangladesh Medical University. Upon receiving the bail documents in the afternoon, he was released directly from the hospital,” Masum said.
Mosharraf had multiple cases filed against him in Dhaka and Chattogram. His release comes after securing bail in the most recent case lodged with Paltan Police Station.
On Aug 5 last year, he was taken from the prison hospital to Bangladesh Medical University Hospital after becoming very ill due to age-related health issues.
Following Thursday’s bail order, prison authorities withdrew the guards assigned to him.
The former MP for Mirsarai was arrested by detectives on Oct 27 from the Bashundhara residential area in Dhaka.
