BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will return to her Gulshan residence on Wednesday evening after receiving medical treatment at the Evercare Hospital for six days.
"Madam's medical board reviewed her health reports on Tuesday evening and decided that she could go home, said Khaleda's personal physician Prof AZM Zahid Hossain.
She will be undergoing treatment at home under the supervision of her physicians, he said.
Khaleda was admitted to the Evercare Hospital on Sept 12 after she suddenly fell ill. She was kept in a cabin and given medical treatment.
A specialised medical board led by Prof Shahabuddin Talukdar has overseen Khaleda's treatment for a long time.
The 79-year-old former prime minister has been suffering from liver cirrhosis, cardiac disease, lung and kidney ailments, arthritis, diabetes and other complications.
She underwent surgery on Oct 27 last year to treat liver cirrhosis. Three specialist doctors came from the US to conduct the surgery.
Earlier in July, Khaleda fell sick seriously and was admitted to the Evercare Hospital.
She returned home on Aug 21 after a month and 12 days in hospital after the Awami League government fell following a mass uprising.
Since then, Khaleda has been receiving treatment at home. Efforts are ongoing to take her abroad for better treatment.
