The Anti-Corruption Commission has suspended deputy director Kamalesh Mandal for neglecting to submit a long-pending investigation report into alleged corruption at Dhaka WASA.

The order comes just days after another deputy director, Md Ahsanul Kabir, was also suspended, highlighting mounting pressure on the graft watchdog over internal accountability.

Mandal’s suspension order, signed by ACC chairman Md Abdul Momen, was issued on Jul 17 but not made public at the time. Palash’s suspension followed later, on Aug 6.

According to the notification, Mandal was assigned to investigate allegations of contractor recruitment irregularities and corruption involving Dhaka WASA's Dhaka Water Supply Network Improvement Project, its project director Akhtaruzzaman, and others.

However, despite being given ample time, he failed to submit a report between Dec 4, 2022 and Apr 10, 2025, nor did he request an extension.

The ACC said this amounted to negligence under its Employee Rules 2008, prompting disciplinary proceedings. At a commission meeting on Jul 10, officials decided under Rule 43(1) to suspend him.

Mandal will remain suspended while receiving subsistence allowance as per regulations, with the order taking effect from the date of issuance.
