People from other areas are also crowding Burhirbandh at Sadar Upazila to see the glorious peak north of the district.

Besides Burhirbandh, the mountain can also be viewed from the town's Chourasta, bus-stand, Tangon Barrage, Baliadangi Upazila and several other areas, locals said

The mountain at India-Nepal border of Sikkim can be seen from these areas from mid-October to late November every year, they said.

Serajum Munir, a resident of Tangon Barrage area, said the view of Kanchanjangha starts to be clearer around 6am.

"It can be seen well until 10am and then the view fades. It becomes clear again when the sunshine falls diagonally in the afternoon," he added.

Md Musa Chowdhury of Burhirbandh said the peak could not seen clear last year due to the intensity of winter fog. "This year we can see it clearly because of less intensity of winter."

Didarul Haque, who resides in the town, said he saw the peak from the roof of a seven-storey building at 6:10am on Monday.

"The peak was blazing in light sunshine. It became red as time passed by," he said.

The first picture of the peak from Thakurgaon is said to be taken by a Bangladeshi photographer, Rejaul Hafiz Rahi, and posted on Facebook in 2013, drawing people from other districts to share the joy of the view. Bangladeshis used to see the peak from another northern district of Panchagarh.

Md Khokon Islam travelled to Thakurgaon from capital Dhaka to see Kanchanjangha.

"I saw photos of Kanchanjangha on Facebook several days ago. I had known that the view is available only from Tentulia in Panchagarh. Now I am seeing it from Thakurgaon," he said.

Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner Md Abdul Awal said he also enjoyed the view of Kanchanjangha after being transferred to the district.
