LONDON, Jan 12 (bdnews24.com/Reuters) - Tom Hicks Jr, son of Liverpool co-owner Tom Hicks, resigned as a club director Monday following local outcry over an email he sent to a fan.
The supporter had emailed Hicks Jr. with a link to a Liverpool Echo story about the club's debt but the newspaper reported that the American sent an abusive reply.
Fan forums reacted with fury, demanding that Hicks Jr, who also sent an apology to the fan, step down.
"Liverpool Football Club today announce that Thomas Hicks Jr has resigned as a director of both the club and its parent company Kop Holdings," the club said in a statement on their website (www.liverpoolfc.tv)."
Hicks senior and George Gillett bought Liverpool in February 2007.
