Dhaka, Jan 15 (BDNEWS) – Former joint secretary and director of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Mahmudul Haque Manu is no more.
The prominent sports organiser died of cardiac arrest at the age of 51 at his Eskaton residence during his sleep early Sunday.
The veteran freedom fighter is survived by his wife Jesmin Zaman, sons Mahmudul Shafiqul Bari and Mahmudul Rashiqul Bari, and a host of relatives and well wishers to mourn his death.
The first namaz-e-janaza of Manu was held at 3:00pm at Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) and the second one at a mosque in Eskaton after Asar prayer.
Awami League Joint Secretary former state minister for sports and Obaidul Kader, BCB former president and political secretary to the opposition leader Saber Hossain Chowdhury, BCB former director Dewan Shafiul Arefin Titul, BCB general secretary Mahbub Anam, former directors Jalal Younus and Ahmed Sajjadul Alam Boby, BCB joint secretary Rafiqul Islam Babu, CCDM chairman Khandaker Jamiluddin, selectors Faruque Ahmed, Athar Ali, Golam Nowsher Prince, former chief selectors Enayet Hossain Siraj, Mainul Haque Mainu, Aliul Islam, Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, former national cricketer Minhajul Abedin Nannu, among other, were present in the first namaz-e-janaza at the BNS.
He was later laid to rest at the Mirpur Martyred Intellectual graveyard.
The dedicated sports organiser was the general secretary of Eskaton Sabuj Sangha till his last breath since 1992.
He was the BCB joint secretary along with Dewan Shafiul Arefin Tutul from 1998 before being elected a BCB director bagging highest votes in the 2000 election. The devoted organiser was also the member secretary of CCDM for two years (1996-98).
The well-known organiser, who was a businessman in personal life, entered into the Bangladesh Cricket Board in 1991 as a sub-committee member and accompanied the Bangladesh national squad in the 1999 World Cup Cricket as co-coordinator.
The BCB in a message Sunday expressed its deep condolence at the sudden death of Manu and extended sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA) in a separate message expressed its deep shock at the sudden death of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) former joint secretary Mahmudul Haque Manu.
BSJA president Manjurul Haq and general secretary Syed Mamun of behalf of BSJA members extended sympathy to the members of bereaved family.
Bangladesh Handball Federation, different sports organizations also condoled the death manu.
The Qulkhawani of Manu will be held at his Eskaton residence Tuesday. A milad mahfil will also be held at the BNS the same day.
