Dhaka, Jan 09n (BDNEWS) - Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) Monday postponed the upcoming the Prime Minister Gold Cup Football tournament in Dhaka.
The tournament involving twelve teams -- eight foreign teams and four local teams -- was scheduled to begin on January 21 at Bangabandhu National Stadium.
BFF president SA Sultan MP said, "We have decided postpone the prime minister cup International tournament in January due to some unavoidable reasons and hope to stage the tournament later on."
He added that they would inform the concerned foreign teams about the postponement of tournament.
But, the main reason of postponing the tournament is lack of fund as the government is reluctant to provide the proposed budget for Taka four crore, a reliable source told BDNEWS.
Earlier on August 8 last year, the BFF announced that they were going to organise the 'Prime Minister International Cup' football tournament in January 2006 after getting the procession of Bangabandhu National Stadium.
The BFF had said they would invite Iran, Syria, Qatar, Singapore, UAE, Thailand, Malaysia, Myanmar, South Korea, Japan, India, China and Vietnam and few other countries for the tournament.
