Dhaka, Nov 14 (bdnews24.com) — Home state minister Shamsul Hoque Tuku claimed that the main opposition party's daylong strike was unjustified and urged its withdrawal for the ease of homebound Eid vacationers. He also asked the opposition to act democratically.
"The opposition leader is shedding tears over the loss of a house. Our leader donated her house on Dhanmondi road 32 for the people. She did not shed a single tear after the Aug 21 grenade attack. Instead she faced it with courage," he added comparing BNP chief Khaleda Zia with Awami League president Sheikh Hasina.
Tuku was responding to journalists at his secretariat office on Sunday.
"Strikes are a part of their democratic right. But, going into movement over the cantonment house or to protect the corrupt Tarique (Khaleda Zia's elder son) is only to bar the country's development. The people will not support such unfounded movements."
He told journalists, "You were there and have seen Khaleda board her vehicle at her own will. And if she were really dragged onto the vehicle, why was sari not ruffled up? Her lipstick did not get smudged. How could she have been dragged onto the vehicle?"
Tuku went on to allege that the opposition leader conspired in that residence but declined to comment on whether he had any such evidence.
He added, "Why does she want to do politics from that specific residence. She is a single person and can stay anywhere. Why is she trying to save the house? What is her intention? Leave them come to the parliament to speak. Speak out for the people to establish democracy, the people have given you the right."
Referring to Khaleda's press conference, Tuku said, "She did not act like a responsible leader. She did not talk responsibly."
