Dhaka, Dec 10 (bdnews24.com) - Mohammad Touhid Hossain Sunday taken over as acting foreign secretary.
Hossain was additional secretary at the foreign ministry.
Foreign secretary Hemayetuddin, who was on contractual appointment, stepped down Sunday and handed over charges to Hossain.
Hemayetuddin later told journalists the government has chosen him as a director general at the OIC Secretariat on a four-year assignment.
The Organisation of Islamic Conference had requested Bangladesh for a nomination.
"I will soon join the office at Jeddah," he said.
The government last year extended Hemayetuddin's contract for two years. He wrote to the President Monday for release.
