Police have booked BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in a case involving Thursday’s arson in Shahbag.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police's Deputy Commissioner Masudur Rahman said that the BNP leader would be produced in the court on Saturday and that they would plea for his remand to interrogate him in the police custody.
"A 10-day remand will be sought for him in the case involving arson on a bus at Shahbag," he said.
Two died and 16 others suffered serious burn injuries when a petrol-bomb was hurled at the bus on Thursday, the last day of the Opposition called 71-hour blockade.
Police had filed a case over the incident on the same day accusing Rizvi and several other senior BNP leaders including Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Vice-Chairman Sadek Hossain Khoka, Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Joint Secretaries General Aman Ullah Aman, Barkatullah Bulu and Salahuddin Ahmed and Dhaka Metropolitan BNP's Member Secretary Abdus Salam
Police arrested Rizvi and Central Executive Committee member Belal Ahmed around 4.15am on Saturday. They have been kept at the Detective Branch headquarters.
BNP office staffs said sleuths of police's detective branch in civvies, climbed up to the first floor of the building and broke open the door of the room where Rizvi was staying and then they took him to their custody.
Police have allegedly damaged equipments of TV crews of two channels while conducting the raid. Senior correspondent of 'Eakttor tv' Shafique Ahmed and senior correspondent of 'Gtv' Gausil Ajam Dipu, who were present at the BNP headquarters, were locked in a room by the police.
Police had raided the BNP headquarters even seven months ago when they arrested some top leaders of the party including its Acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. Rizvi was also arrested then. He had to spend time in jail before securing bail.
In the past one month, several other top BNP leaders including its Standing Committee members Moudud Ahmed, MK Anwar, ASM Hannan Shah and Rafiqul Islam Mia, chairperson's advisors Mir Md Nasir Uddin and Abdul Awal Mintoo, Organising Secretary Golam Akbar Khondokar and Khaleda Zia's special assistant Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas had been arrested on charges of strike and blockade related violence and are now in jail.
