Jessore, Dec 17 (bdnews24.com) -- The local BNP called dawn-to-dusk shutdown in Jessore district to protest against the death of the district unit's finance secretary Nazmul Islam is going on without any reports of major trouble.
Schools and shops remained shut at key town points on Saturday. Rickshaws and other smaller vehicles ruled the roads as traffic was lighter than usual.
BNP's district unit supporters brought out processions earlier in the morning.
"Our shutdown programme will last until dusk", BNP's Jessore district unit general secretary Saberul Haque Babu told bdnews24.com on Saturday.
Nazmul Islam, chief Jhikargachha thana unit BNP, went missing Wednesday night on his way back to his residence in Dhanmondi from a wedding programme. His body was later found lying alongside the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway on Thursday morning.
BNP standing committee member and former minister Tariqul Islam declared the protest from a news conference at Jessore Press Club on Thursday.
