The private television channel’s Assistant Manager Yunus Ali filed the case on Saturday evening accusing the ruling party MP, along with 20 to 25 unidentified attackers, of murderous assault on the journalists.

Shahbagh Police station OC Shirajul Islam told bdnews24.com, “A case has been filed against MP Golam Maula levelling several charges.”

The case includes charges of attempt to murder, assault and vandalism.

Earlier, the MP had apologised for assaulting TV journalists Imtiaz Momin Sony and cameraman Mohsin Mukul, who had went to his Meherba Plaza office at Topkhana Road on Saturday to interview him for the channel’s crime-based programme Talash.

After the intervention of leaders of journalists union, who had rushed to Rony’s office on hearing the news, the MP had apologised for the assault.

He had also agreed to bear the treatment expenses of the two assaulted journalists and to compensate the damage he caused to the channel’s camera.
