The Awami League Parliamentary Party at a meeting on Monday picked up the party’s Naogaon district unit General Secretary Abdul Malek.
Awami League General Secretary and LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam disclosed Malek’s selection before the media after the meeting.
Party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting held at her official Ganabhaban residence.
Malek is now the Chairman of Naogaon Sadar Upazila Council and has to resign from the post to contest the by-polls.
The Naogaon-5 parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of veteran lawmaker and former General Secretary Abdul Jalil on Mar 6.
