Dhaka, Dec 11 (bdnews24.com) - BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia Monday said everyone must take part in the elections to uphold democracy and the constitution.
She asked all "patriotic" political parties to take part in the elections to bury ongoing crisis and resist conspiracies against the country.
The 14-party alliance wants to make Bangladesh dysfunctional by creating anarchy, Khaleda told a function at Hawa Bhaban where over 50 Awami League leaders and activists of Narail led by former MP Sharif Khasruzzaman joined the BNP.
"They do not recognise president, chief justice or Election Commission, which means they do not recognise even Bangladesh," she said, pointing finger at AL.
She asked the Al and its 13 allies to do fair politics and give up their current political strategy.
Secretary General of AL's Narail district chapter Khan Mannanur Rahman and Kashiur UP Chairman Nur Jalal Molla also joined the BNP.
Khaleda said the AL wants to thwart the elections as it is scared of people.
She said Bangladesh could not move forward during the AL rule due to their misdeeds and terrorism.
"Bangladesh achieved huge successes during four-party rule and that is why people would vote BNP-led alliance back to power," she said.
The BNP chief congratulated those who joined BNP men and said : "You have realised after 50 years that Awami League could not give you anything.
She asked her supporters to work together as if they think they are members of the same family.
Former AL leader Khasruzzaman said he did not join BNP out of anger. "Being a freedom fighter, when I saw the Awami League is destroying the country like [trade unions do] I decided to join the BNP," he said.
BNP leaders KM Obaidur Rahman, Amanullah Aman, Ziaul Haq Zia, Shah Md Abu Zafar and Mosaddek Ali were present.
