She also called upon the wealthy people of the society to come forward to assist in the rehabilitation process.
Hasina visited victims in Urshiura village of Brahmanbaria on Monday and expressed her condolences over their loss. Later, she distributed relief among the affected people at the Chinair Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Degree College grounds.
Some villages in the district were hit by the natural disaster on Friday afternoon, killing at least 20 people that day.
Death toll in the tornado rose to 31 by Monday, Deputy Commissioner of Brahmanbaria Nur Mohammad Majumder said.
Speaking to victims at Chinair, the Prime Minister said, “Don’t lose hope...we were always beside you, and will be always. We will take best-possible rehabilitation measures for the victim families.”
She said she had come to see the condition of the victims, not to address rallies.
Hasina said both her government and party Awami league were committed to serving the victims and humanity.
She also expressed gratitude towards the personnel of army, BGB and police working there tirelessly to tackle the disaster.
She said the government would provide the affected students with study materials.
The Prime Minister arrived at Brahmanbaria’s Niaz Mohammad Stadium around 4:15pm. Later, she visited the affected areas and then left for Dhaka.
